Safety
OCI’s
professionals are well aware of the safety requirements that today's construction
industry demands. OCI always works with our clients and all regulatory agencies
to be a proven industry leader in the safety & health arena as well as to comply
with safety & health standards and best practices. Ensuring the safety and health
of all of our professionals, contractors and clients is our top priority. We attribute
our excellent safety record to our professionals. OCI’s professionals understand
the value of maintaining a safe worksite and make safety and health a top priority.
OCI’s ultimate goal is to become a “zero injury” company –
this requires the mindset that every injury is preventable and where supervisors
and professionals alike view safety and health performance as the key element to
a job being performed correctly.
OCI employs safety and health specialists, medical professionals, insurance experts,
industrial hygienists and security specialists to meet the needs of the company’s
professionals and clients worldwide.
Employing a predominantly direct-hire workforce assumes a high level of risk to
the organization that can have lasting effects if not properly managed. Most apparent
are the effects that OCI’s safety performance has on parent company Black
& Veatch's workers' compensation premiums and incident statistics. To manage
this as effectively as possible, B&V tracks the Construction Division’s
Incident Rate (IR) and Days Away from Work (DAFW) rate separately from the rest
of the company and then includes these numbers in the overall company performance.
The Construction Division includes the safety performance of our subcontractors
in the division and company numbers as well. In 2005, the Construction Division's
IR was 1.78 with a DAFW rate of 0.17 against industry average numbers of 6.80 and
3.60 respectively. The 2005 company numbers were an 0.76 IR and 0.12 DAWF with an
Experience Modification Rate (EMR) of 0.41. Through the first quarter of 2006, the
Construction Division’s performance is a 1.02 IR and 0.0 DAFW.
